Personality - ego or Real Self, pleasure or joy?

A finely tempered nature longs to escape from the personal life into the world of objective perception and thought. Albert Einstein

The physical body experiences sensation while the Real Self experiences exaltation. Through sensation one experiences pleasure. Through exaltation one experiences joy. There is a difference between joy and pleasure. Through sensation we experience the pleasure of eating, drinking, seeing beautiful things, hearing beautiful music and touching one another. All the comforts of the physical world are experienced as a physical sensation.

Exaltation or joy is not dependant upon the senses, it is dependant upon tranquility. When the condition of tranquility can be brought about at will the personality or ego self is set free from the addiction to the pleasures of sensation and the Real Self is experienced as joy.

The mind is more the being of the man than the body. The senses experience the outer life while the mind reflects the inner life. This is how we experience one another, not by what we say or do, or by what we look like, but by the atmosphere our presence creates. The mind is like a lantern within the body. It spreads its light wherever it goes. An agitated mind will shed an agitated light or strobe light which is very uncomfortable to experience. The tranquil mind will shed a warm constant glow which is very pleasant when experienced.

Feeling is such an important part of our lives. Our whole life depends upon our feelings. Feeling is a vibration and the heart is the instrument strumming this vibration. If your heart is strumming the vibration of pain, then that pain is experienced by yourself as well as others. If one gives love to someone, the feeling or vibration of love is strummed by the instrument of the heart and experienced by the other person as well as yourself. Once released, all vibrations have the tendency to return in one form or another. It is therefore far better to strum the vibration of love than hatred. Feelings and vibrations are the basis of all our interactions with fellow humans.

Some interactions bring out the best in our personality and some the very worst. We all have had the experience of interacting badly when in the presence of or being confronted by someone whose personality is apposed to our own. The interaction usually leaves us feeling uncomfortable and may even damage our self image. This experience is the opposite to attraction, it is repulsion and this too is based upon the sensation of energy vibration.

When we lose someone we have had a successful and happy long standing interaction with, especially in the case of a parent or partner who we have been close to, we also lose a part of ourselves. This part is the part of our personality which interacted in a unique and special way with the one who is lost. This loss will leave us feeling lonely and may also have us wondering about who we really are? What has happened is that we are no longer receiving the vibration of love being strummed by the heart of the person we have lost. In its place we are experiencing the feeling of grief being strummed by our own hearts.
